Quahog Clamshell Weaving Workshop

  • The Brewster Book Store 2648 Main Street Brewster, MA 02631 United States (map)

Join us for a Quahog Weaving Workshop with The Brewster Book Store!

Maybe you’re familiar with the Cape Cod quahog as the iconic clam shell with the purple inside. Perhaps you’re a fan of clam chowder or the beautiful carved jewelry made by local Wampanoag and other artisans. But did you also know that you can weave a quahog shell?

Join Sarah Manion of The Interwoven Institute in a 3-hour workshop where you’ll learn how to transform the common quahog into a truly delightful work of art. Learn the history and cultural significance of this local bivalve while you weave your own shell.

As an added bonus, we’ll enjoy a snack of stuffed quahogs and experience the interconnectedness of local materials, land, culture, and craft!

What to Expect:

  • Learn about the ecological, cultural and historical importance of the North American Quahog

  • Learn to mindfully weave your own shell (and take it home with you!)

  • Fully experience that quahog as creative and nutritional material

No experience with weaving is necessary and all materials (including a pre-warped shell) will be provided. Recommended for 16+ years of age.
