Join us for a Quahog Weaving Workshop with The Brewster Book Store!
Maybe you’re familiar with the Cape Cod quahog as the iconic clam shell with the purple inside. Perhaps you’re a fan of clam chowder or the beautiful carved jewelry made by local Wampanoag and other artisans. But did you also know that you can weave a quahog shell?
Join Sarah Manion of The Interwoven Institute in a 3-hour workshop where you’ll learn how to transform the common quahog into a truly delightful work of art. Learn the history and cultural significance of this local bivalve while you weave your own shell.
As an added bonus, we’ll enjoy a snack of stuffed quahogs and experience the interconnectedness of local materials, land, culture, and craft!
What to Expect:
Learn about the ecological, cultural and historical importance of the North American Quahog
Learn to mindfully weave your own shell (and take it home with you!)
Fully experience that quahog as creative and nutritional material
No experience with weaving is necessary and all materials (including a pre-warped shell) will be provided. Recommended for 16+ years of age.
Rain Date: Friday August 14th
